Senior Hardware Engineer Reports Directly to: Project Manager Purpose: Lead as the SME within the specialism being the coach and mentor of non-senior engineers Develop and implement structured embedded Hardware solutions to meet avionic programme requirements across the whole development lifecycle in accordance with customer requirements, legislation, human factors and business needs. The design management and design, modification, commissioning, verification and proving of electronic circuits and their embodiment in ruggedised products The preparation and review of plans and documentation in support of the qualification and certification/approval of safety critical products in accordance with programme-specific requirements The design management and design, modification, commissioning, verification and proving of electronic circuits and their embodiment in ruggedised products The preparation of plans and documentation in support of the qualification and certification/approval of safety critical products in accordance with programme-specific requirements Role Responsibilities To interpret and rationalise hardware requirements documents from higher level requirements and ensure designs are documented to the relevant project/Company standards To discover, design, analyse, commission and verify analogue and digital circuits in accordance with defined requirements specifications including cost and reliability targets To plan and manage hardware qualification activities and specify, design, commission and verify equipment test requirements Develop innovative engineering solutions to meet the requirements of the project to agreed schedule, quality and cost requirements across the whole development lifecycle within the context of the MAv lifecycle management process Work with customers, other engineering disciplines and other internal departments across the whole development process and respond to their requests in a timely and professional manner Assist in the compilation of plans, estimates, task lists and risk management plans in support of programme objectives, project estimates and bids Perform internal project activities and work with external sub-contract organisations, whilst maintaining focus on achieving goals with a positive can-do attitude Capture and define requirements through a disciplined and rigorous approach to requirements management and ask challenging questions about the requirements and architecture of the system at each level of the hierarchy Contribute to the development of systems architectures considering alternative concepts and trade analysis in order to determine preferred solution. Construct and implement embedded solutions including detailed design, contribution to technical reviews and performance optimisation. Generate, perform and validate results of verification plans, test plans, analysis, test case design and other specific kinds of tests. Understand and implement the requirements for certification of safety critical products to the specified development assurance level requirements and processes Desirable Skills: BSc in Electronic Engineering Chartered Engineer Status Experience as a leader, manager, supervisor of engineers Analogue and digital experience Embedded software experience Experience of hardware data bus standards such as RS242/232, CANBUS, I2C, SPI, ARINC429 and Ethernet Experience designing and implementing system design including processing cores, data buses and design for power Experience of qualification to aerospace, defence or harsh environments Embedded microcontroller/microprocessor application experience is essential Awareness of FPGA devices is preferable Experience of making presentations to customers and suppliers (both internal and external) Ability to compile and present progress reports Ability to work with other engineering disciplines as part of an integrated team Ability to present technical data to management in a clear and concise manner Ability to review and criti
