JOB DUTIES : 1. Responsible for the provision of anaesthetic services, including pre and post-operative care for patients, and provision of consultant medical cover for the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit. 2. Responsible for the appropriate management of these patients. 3. Participates in the consultant on-call rota for the cardiac unit. 4. May be required to consult in various areas of the hospitals outside the operating departments. 5. Is expected to work as part of the consultant team within anaesthesia. 6. Undertakes the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients and in the running of the clinical departments. 7. Actively participates in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students, including nursing and professions allied to medicine. 8. Participates in departmental audit meetings and postgraduate conferences. OTHER INFO : Vacancy closes 2pm on Tuesday 13th September 2016. Minimal education level:
1. Full registration with the General Medical Council plus a licence to practice (must have both at time of appointment). 2. Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in the UK or equivalent qualification. 3. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia via: i. CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date) ii. CESR or iii. European Community Rights. 4. Completion of a clinical fellowship of at least 12 months duration in a recognised unit for the training of cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care. 5. Have received training in perioperative TOE. 6. All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
