Job Description This post is based at Levenmouth Academy Interview Date: Tuesday 3 May 2016 Working in conjunction with the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult the STEM Engagement Officer will aim to make connections and bespoke links with relevant local and national STEM related businesses and organisations, as well as College and University partners. These bespoke links will enable the school to develop more relevant STEM industry based experiences for all young people. These experiences will provide the opportunity for young people to learn in a range of environments with opportunities created to develop scope within the STEM curriculum. Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.33 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid. Requirements You will have relevant industry experience in a STEM context and be educated to degree level in one of the STEM curricular subjects. Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland. This post is subject to a disclosure check which will be undertaken by Disclosure Scotland. Responsibilities You will be supporting the co-ordination of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) development work in Levenmouth Academy, post-school pathways and taking forward relevant employment links. Our aim is to provide industry and partnership working that engages young people and offers exciting Further/Higher education and career opportunities beyond school. Other responsibilities include: • Directing and communicating effectively with young people (and where appropriate parents) regarding STEM career opportunities, vacancies, apprenticeships. • Arranging on-site visits for teachers with STEM employers and for STEM employers to provide case studies for young people to engage with. • Promoting opportunities for STEM progression through promoting work-based learning destinations, such as Modern Apprenticeships and college/university courses. • Organising relevant STEM industry experts to talk to specific classes and targeted groups within the timetable and providing materials regarding STEM industrial concepts which class teachers could use as a basis for developing units of work and programmes of learning. • Creating and maintaining a database of former pupils who are willing to share experiences of their job with the young people and building a profile of relevant case examples. • Creating and maintaining folders of STEM industry and company profiles along with job descriptions which link into appropriate websites. • Providing a link and assisting with the co-ordination of the Career Ready programme and college/university partnership programmes e.g. Lift Off, First Chances, Foundation Apprenticeships or similar. • Working with the graduate Aide to coordinate activities in respect of Developing our Young Workforce. The Individual You will have experience as a STEM industry practitioner and will have demonstrated the ability to build strong and effective working relationships with school professionals, external partners and employers. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with young people as well as good planning and organisational skills. You must have continued development of professional knowledge.
