SENIOR INVESTMENT PARTNER (PUBLIC SECTOR) The Global Innovation Fund (GIF) is a $200m non-profit innovation fund headquartered in London. We invest in the piloting, rigorous testing and scaling of innovations targeted at improving the lives of the poorest people in developing countries. GIF aims to support a portfolio of innovations that collectively open up opportunities and improve lives for hundreds of millions of people across the developing world. We believe that the best ideas for solving some of the world’s most critical problems can come from anyone, anywhere. Through our grants and risk capital, we support breakthrough solutions to global development challenges from social enterprises, non-profit organisations, researchers, for-profit firms, and government agencies. GIF offers grants, loans (including convertible debt), and equity investments ranging from $50,000 to $15 million to support a range of innovations with strong potential for social impact at a large scale. We define ‘innovation’ broadly to include new business models, policy practices, technologies, behavioural insights, or ways of delivering products and services that benefit the poor in developing countries. We support innovators at different phases of development, ranging from early start-up and pilot-testing to rigorous experiments and larger scale implementation. POSITION SUMMARY GIF seeks to hire a Senior Investment Partner (Public Sector): a senior-level (Vice President-equivalent) leadership position responsible for finding, evaluating, executing and managing funding opportunities that align with GIF’s goal of scaling promising social innovations through the public and non-profit sectors. The Senior Investment Partner (Public Sector) will be an integral part of a small team of Investment Partners, and will complement the work of other Investment Partners who lead risk capital investment deals. The Senior Partner will ultimately report to a member of the C-suite, who will oversee his or her work. The Senior Investment Partner’s responsibilities will include: * Finding, appraising, developing, executing and managing a high quality portfolio of scalable innovations that have the potential to reach millions of people through public or philanthropic support * Managing and mentoring members of a public sector investment team, including director and associate-level staff. The Senior Investment Partner will guide and monitor members of the team as well as develop proposals him/herself * Serve as a partner in strategic thinking with the C-suite, senior management and investment teams * Sourcing and developing funding opportunities to pilot, test or scale promising social innovations, including from NGOs, researchers, social enterprises, and developing country governments * Working closely with the most promising applicants to develop and strengthen proposals to a standard that can secure the approval of GIF investment committees * Overseeing the preparation of detailed investment proposals and investment memos for GIF decision panels and serving on decision panels * Participating in the evaluation of proposals and applications submitted through GIF’s open application platform, including evaluation of the proposed innovation’s evidence base, cost-effectiveness, management quality, and ability to scale * Leading due diligence, research and project economic analysis, evaluating strength of leadership and implementation capacity of applicants, and making funding recommendations * Developing strategic partnerships (co-investment, follow-on funding and operational expansion) to support the scalability of public sector programs funded by GIF, including with public sector partners, international organisations, donors, developing country governments and implementing organisations * In collaboration w
