Financial Controller: A hands-on, dependable Financial Controller, preferably with experience working in a high volume transactional business, is required for a highly successful online and depot-based electrical wholesaler, with a £60m turnover. This is a new position to bring the finance function back in-house. The ideal Financial Controller will be content in a hands-on high volume transactional processing role, but also capable of taking responsibility for the stewardship of the business, the reporting of results, many of the key processes underpinning the business, with direct contact with the MD, HR and all depot managers, customers, suppliers, auditors and other external parties as required. As the champion of risk and controls you will set the highest standards and drive change. Building strong relationships and possessing great communication skills will be key to success in this role. Key Responsibilities: - Lead finance team of 4 - Deliver company management and financial reports. Both routine and adhoc. - Manage the Purchase Ledger process. Ensuring an efficient and effective matching process for supplier purchase orders, invoices and payments - Manage the Sales Ledger process. Ensuring an efficient and effective matching process for customer orders, invoicing and payments. Strong credit control is essential - Maintain the robustness of the balance sheet; ensuring reconciliations are performed and that any reconciling items are cleared in a timely manner. Ensure inventory is correctly valued at all times - Identify improvement opportunities in working capital and overall balance sheet - Preparation of year end reporting/statutory accounts - Manage payment and control of office expenses - Prepare and submit VAT returns - Manage the Payroll system and all related PAYE/tax/pension reporting requirements - Routine review/control/reconciliation of bank accounts, implement foreign currency transactions - Lead relationship with external accounting/audit/tax firm(s) - Support the management team members in furthering their financial understanding Skills & Experience: - Qualified Accountant (ACCA or equivalent) - Excellent team leader across a team of varied skill levels, ability to mentor, coach, and develop. - Significant hands on, and varied, accounting experience essential - Good working knowledge of accounting packages (Datafiler currently used, IRIS for Payroll) - Good working knowledge of Excel - Preparing and reviewing financial statements under UK GAAP/ new FRS - Specific practical experience of credit control - Specific practical experience of submitting VAT returns - Ability to communicate complex finance issues in an accessible manner to the business - Ability and desire to work with both the routine (e.g., system posting, bank recs) as well as more challenging elements (e.g., credit control, account preparation) - Influencing skills and capability/desire to drive positive change - Cultural awareness - Ability to act fast, flexibly and creatively without losing control - Unquestionable confidentiality - Uncompromised levels of Integrity Cultural fit is critical as an individual with bundles of emotional intelligence is required to affect the change from an outsourced finance function to a high performing in-house function.
