Outstanding people, outstanding performance... A vacancy has arisen for an experienced surgical nurse to join the Surgical Assessment Unit as the Emergency Surgery Nurse Practitioner. Applications for this position at Band 7 are invited from Registered Nurses with valid registration. You will be educated to degree level. (BSc Hons Nurse Practitioner) or working towards this level; working towards non-medical prescribing. This vacancy offers the opportunity to be a part of a developing Surgical Assessment Unit in ensuring the full integration of medical and surgical patients for assessment following referral from their GP or the Emergency Department. Based at Dorset County Hospital, the successful candidate will be required to participate in the smooth running and development of the Surgical Assessment and Surgical Hot Clinic. The successful candidate will also provide specialist and advanced clinical skills supporting the medical staff and nursing teams with the Assessment Unit and across the wider surgical teams and wards. As the Nurse Practitioner you will work autonomously assessing individual patient needs. Another large part of the role will be working with the theatre and surgical teams in ensuring the smooth running and efficient coordination of the daily emergency lists with a view to improving theatre utilisation and reducing out of hours operating. This will involve working close with a variety of teams to ensure the operating lists are booked appropriately. The successful candidate will need to have excellent communication and negotiation skills to meet this objective. The Trust is located close to the centre of the county town of Dorchester and is a modern hospital. It provides the full range of general, acute hospital services including a main Emergency Department, ITU, CCU, general medicine, paediatrics, general surgery and the Dorset sub-regional Renal Unit. Dorchester is a popular market town serving a catchment population of 220,000 with easy access to Dorsets Jurassic Coastline in an area of outstanding beauty, served by frequent direct rail services to London Waterloo and Bristol, with four regional airports within 90 minutes by road. There are excellent recreational amenities and good educational facilities are available in both the public and private sectors.
