Your first thought on waking will be based on what you are going to eat today/ tomorrow/ next week. Food is the main driving force in your life. You open to the food pages as a priority in the weekend papers, you subscribe to all the food magazines, food shopping at the weekend is not a bind and it is a joy.... Need I go on? I am sure you get the picture - we are looking for a passionate gourmet - this job could be your hobby, no more Monday morning blues, this is your dream job! Obviously, this may apply to many, many people (me included!); however there are a few more parameters that our Development Manager will have to meet. Namely, as well as having the in-depth knowledge around food trends, competitors activities and retailer contact, you will have to have a proven track record within a senior NPD post. Managing the development process, having a true understanding of what it takes to deliver an outstanding, successful new product range on to the retailers shelves will be something that we will need to see evidence of. Although the Development Manager needs to focus on the creative side of the development process, you will need to have a good understanding of the factory operation. Knowledge of the operational side should not have any impact on, or restrict the creative flow of the Development team; however the Development Manager does have to keep an eye on technical and production constraints. Maximising the business potential while not taking the company into the negative is key to this role.
