Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries School of Architecture Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Architecture – History and Theory of Architecture and Interior Design Employment type: Permanent Employment basis: Full time Salary: Lecturer £35,211 - £38,450 per annum Senior Lecturer £39,609 - £48,677 per annum Post number: ZZ004581 Date published: 30 November 2018 Closing date: 06 January 2019 Interview date: 30 January 2019 The Portsmouth School of Architecture wishes to appoint either a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer with a specialism in History and Theory of Architecture and Interior Design. The School engages in teaching, research and innovation in architecture, interior architecture and design, sustainable cities and historic building conservation. Architecture courses are accredited with RIBA and prescribed by the Architects Registration Board. These roles provide an exciting and creative opportunity to shape curriculum development and portfolio, challenging students and sustaining excellence, innovation and professional alignment of our programmes. Students enjoy dedicated studio working space in the new Eldon West wing, and the Eldon Production Centre offers impressive facilities in contemporary production technologies such as laser cutting, CNC milling and 3D printing. Our extensive digital studios include over 600 open access Macs and PCs running a range of specialist industry-standard software. The School is enjoying strong recruitment and currently has 720 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the newly launched Level 7 apprenticeship programme. Responsibilities will include contributing to leadership and delivery of your particular specialism, alongside studio design teaching including design of project briefs and other assessments. We have a strong studio working ethos and the proposed appointments will play a key role in shaping the teaching and learning environment. An ability to offer practical support to students from concept to detailed design in a studio environment will be a key consideration, and we welcome applicants with an academic or a practice background, both are crucial in terms of providing role models for our students. Through the integrated learning environment, we ensure that students are engaged in contemporary debates about architecture, design and the built environment from the outset. You will be expected to engage with research and produce high quality outputs, and participate in building collaborations through internal and external networking activity. The School leads a research Cluster in Sustainable Cities, and is strengthening research in all areas of the School. Learning is connected to the practice of architecture through the engagement of practitioners as part time tutors to support studio teaching alongside academic staff and the School has strong practice links within the region. You will have: · A relevant professional qualification in architecture or associated discipline; · Experience of teaching in a School of Architecture; · A collaborative approach to teaching, learning and practice; · An ability to contribute to our research aims; · A commitment to support our students in the development of employability skills.
