About the role From skills to industrial strategy to global challenges, the UK’s arts and humanities have a strong tradition of research excellence and the delivery of engagement across sectors such as the creative economy, cultural organisations, public policy and diverse communities. The Strategic Leads within AHRC work with the AHRC’s Executive Chair, Directors and Associate Directors to drive forward ambitious plans for the future of arts and humanities research in the UK and globally. As the Lead for Public Policy, you will play a key role in identifying and developing the emerging opportunities for arts and humanities research to have a demonstrable impact on UK and international policy. Specifically, you will help develop and deliver an AHRC strategy for public policy that sets out the kinds of interventions we should make; the organisations we should work with; the departments we should focus on (and why). This will include uncovering the evidence we have and developing creative ways in which we might use it. Responsibilities: • to create, lead and manage the public policy delivery plan, by liaising with subject-based teams and aggregating/distilling public policy gaps and evidence • providing briefings for the senior leadership team within AHRC and across UKRI • preparing submissions to government consultations and inquiries as well as submissions for other external audiences • lead on the development of AHRC responses to consultations and inquiries from government bodies including select committees, government departments and agencies as well as other appropriate external organisations. About you You will have an understanding of the arts and humanities funding landscape which includes research, postgraduate, knowledge exchange and policy. You must have experience of managing a team/project team and an ability to motivate, manage and develop staff at different levels. You should have experience of thinking strategically in terms of wider organisational goals and developing new partnerships, processes or activities for an area of responsibility in the light of wider organisational strategy. You will have the ability to analyse and condense complex information/data in order to provide clear, succinct and informed advice to senior management and other colleagues.
