Job description:
The aim of the post is to investigate how different biomechanical environments impact on vascular matrix stiffness and cell function. The post-holder will use state-of-the art MRI and cell biological techniques to study the mechanical properties of the normal and calcified extracellular matrix of vascular smooth muscle cells, and determine the biological responses to these environments. The work will be carried out within the framework of a largely multidisciplinary approach, in collaboration between the Shanahan and Sinkus laboratories. The post will be based at the Denmark Hill Campus. Role specific requirements include: To engage in internationally-leading research and to take a role in determining the future path of this research; to manage specific pieces of activity to an agreed timeline and within a specific budget including literature reviews, data collection and analysis, report writing; to attend and, as appropriate, present research findings and papers at internal academic meetings and external professional conferences, and to contribute to the internal and external visibility of the department. The selection process will include a presentation and panel interview. Interviews will be held on a date yet to be confirmed. The salary will be paid at Grade 6, £32,600 per annum, plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance. This is a full-time, fixed term post for 16 months.
