This post is part of a major initiative to both develop clinical trials capacity and to expand and strengthen methodological research and training within the Faculty. The Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) is committed to substantial investments into the development of a Greater Manchester-wide clinical trials coordination unit capable of providing world-class support for randomised controlled trials throughout the whole spectrum of medical, clinical and health services research. The founding core for this unit is the existing UKCRC-registered MAHSC Trials Coordination Unit (MAHSC-CTU) currently located on the Christie Hospital site, together with senior trials methodologists based in the University. Historically the MAHSC-CTU specialised in early phase cancer trials, however over the last few years, the Units portfolio has expanded to support other disciplines within the MAHSC partnership, particularly supporting mental and social health studies. The Unit is now seeking to consolidate this growth and expand its coverage and expertise to include complex interventions and pragmatic e-trials. Included in this plan is a re-hosting of the Unit within the University of Manchester, along with a physical relocation of the MAHSC-CTU onto the University Campus. The University and MAHSC partnership is investing in this and other senior trials posts (in health economics, imaging and cancer) to deliver step change in trials capacity and capability. This post is key to leading on developing and delivering the strategy for the expansion of the CTU.
