Job description:
We are seeking to recruit a Principal or Associate level Transport Planner to join our client's transportation team in Manchester, to work on private sector development planning work. The team undertakes development planning for a wealth of private and public sector clients providing advice and supporting development proposals through the planning process with innovative highways and transportation solutions. Ideally, you will have experience of delivering development planning proposals under the guidance of others, with a track record of leading your own project work and being able to successfully delegate work elements to junior staff. With a bias towards development planning, the main role would be to prepare Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals etc. and assist in other general highways development planning advice on schemes. You can expect to be active on a number of projects / client accounts at any given time. These can vary in both scale and nature, making the workload extremely interesting. Project management and financial management experience of individual projects will be required. The position will report to both a Line Manager and Project Director, working as part of a team with guidance from senior staff. As a Principal or Associate Transport Planner you will have experience of transport planning and inputting the feasibility and development of scheme proposals. Ideally you will be well versed in the preparation of quality transport assessments, providing advice to clients and architects with supporting information such as travel plans. Experience in a range of sectors and work types would be beneficial. Ideally you will have knowledge of areas such as public transport and policies at local, regional and national level. The ability to think at both strategic and detailed levels is advantageous given the diversity of project work. You will have knowledge of preliminary highway design, junction design and analysis, traffic software such as TRICS, ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG. Knowledge of Manual for Streets, as well as Highways Agency and Local Authority design guidance and their implementation is essential. Experience in report writing and use of spreadsheets is essential, with AutoCAD experience desirable and you will need to have good written and spoken communication skills.
