From user-friendly household waste recycling centres for the general public to some of the most advanced materials recycling facilities and energy from waste plants in Europe. Landfill Operative – 18 Months Fixed Term Job Ref: 13984 Location: Walpole, Bridgwater £19,214 + Benefits Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday Todays modern landfill sites can be a major source of the UKs renewable energy production. They will continue to generate energy for many years after landfill closure as decomposing waste continues to produce methane gas. Left untreated, this gas would create environmental damage; however the controlled cell design of our clients landfill sites, combined with a network of wells and pipes, enables safe extraction of landfill gas. This gas is then supplied to fuel engines to generate electricity, which is fed directly into the national grid. Our client is now looking to recruit a new Landfill Operative based at their Walpole Landfill Site in Bridgwater to carrying out a variety of manual, machine operating duties relating to the landfill and associated activities, including the reception and placing of waste delivered in to the landfill facility. Travel to Dimmer & Broadpath facilities will be required as part of the role. They are looking for a strong, positive team player who has experience in driving plant e.g. Tractor, Waste Compactor, Wheeled/Tracked Loading Shovel, 360 Excavator, or 180 Excavator and holds a recognised training certificate, for example CITB/QPTC/Waste and Utilities certificate. The role requires a flexible approach to days and hours to ensure vital tasks are achieved in a timely and precise manner therefore working at weekends, nights and bank holidays may be required. In return they can offer an attractive salary of £19,214.00 plus a comprehensive pension scheme, working within in a team-orientated and collaborative environment, for a company that strives to be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. Duties include, but not limited to: Assist in ensuring the day to day operational activities at Walpole Landfill site are carried out in accordance with the Company Procedures. Ensuring maintenance/operation of site plant and equipment is carried out in accordance with manufacturers’ and Company instructions and that any defects are reported by the approved system. Assist in co-ordinating landfill operations to ensure that waste is dealt with efficiently at the site and is handled and treated in the correct manner complying with all legislative requirements and contracted conditions. Ensure that Risk Assessments (RA) and Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) are followed at all times. Carrying out other duties as required from time to time including operation of the weighbridge. Skills / Experience:. Experience in driving plant, for example: Tractor, Waste Compactor, Wheeled/Tracked Loading Shovel, Rollon-off, 25 tonne ADT, 360 Excavator, or 180 Excavator. Knowledge of relevant plant and machinery including operation and first line maintenance. Have basic health and safety skills.
