Job Description Position: Kitchen and Catering Purpose of Position   1. To offer residents a daily choice of food and beverages and assist the cook in preparing a well-balanced and healthy diet, that is presented in a manner that is appetising for the residents.  To ensure that specialist diets and nutritional guidelines are followed and any concerns are raised to the management team. To monitor food coming back and ensure that this is discussed with the cook in order to plan menus effectively.   Reporting Lines   1. To report to any Kitchen and Catering staff member of higher grade. 2. To report to any Senior Care Assistant. 3. To report to the Registered Manager or, in his/her absence, Deputy Care Manager, seniors. 4. To report to the Area Manager/Director. Principal Responsibilities 1.Food Preparation and Supply a)      Prepare vegetables and other foodstuffs and beverages. b)      Ensure that any specially requested dietary requirements are catered for. c)       Ensure tables are laid and residents who need specialist utensils receive them. d)      Ensure that all staff and residents are aware when food is being served. e)      Assist in ensuring that a stock list is maintained and that provisions are ordered in a timely fashion from the Preferred Suppliers, and that other staff are made aware of the locations of each item. f)        Assist in ensuring that a list of items required is maintained so that orders can be made with minimum of fuss. g)      To ensure adequate stock levels at all times ensuring that the Home is never over or under stocked. h)      Ensure that all residents receive meals as requested from the alternative forms filled in. i)         Ensure that you are aware of any dietary restrictions in cases where it is thought that a resident could suffer any adverse reactions to foodstuffs being provided, e.g. sugar intake. j)         Ensure meals are liquidised/fortified and fluids are thickened as per residents care plan. k)       Note any likes, dislikes, preferences and suggestions of residents and bring these to the attention of the Manager for inclusion in menus. To ensure immediate availability of everyday food and drink items, e.g. replenishment of salt and pepper pots, refilling of hot-water urn, tea, coffee and sugar etc. l)         To ensure all visitors are offered a choice of beverages. m)    To ensure the menu board is updated with the day’s menu (and options). n)      To wash dishes and kitchen utensils. To fill, operate and empty the dishwasher as required. o)      To ensure that the kitchen and food storage areas are kept clean and tidy at all times. p)      Ensure floor is moped daily, bin emptied and cleaning schedule is followed. 2.Staff Matters a)      Help to ensure that all staff contribute to the best of their ability in order to maintain the efficient running of the Home and, where necessary, raise any concerns about these to those listed in the Reporting Lines. b)      To attend supervisions, appraisals and attend staff meetings and training when organised. c)       To act in a manner that does not adversely influence the behaviour of other staff. d)      Supervise and train more junior Kitchen and Catering staff to ensure that the kitchen and catering side of the Home runs smoothly and efficiently. 3. Premises   a)      Ensure that Food and Hygiene policies and all other regulations
