Job Ref. 632414BR Role Summary Commercial Finance Manager – Investment Appraisal About the role: The role is part of a wider commercial team supporting the Property and Proposition functions. Property is responsible for the delivery of new stores and managing our existing estate of 600+ stores and Proposition is responsible for designing, trialling and deploying new propositions. As a Commercial Finance Manager you will business partner the Property team and support the Senior Director for the South region of the UK. You will be at the forefront of helping the business make the right investment decisions, aligned to strategic priorities and will be a key component of the decision making process which identifies, recommends and concludes on investment proposals, working closely with other teams across Property and Finance The Ins and Outs: - The successful candidate will work with stakeholders across the wider Property teams, including surveyors, market evaluation and construction - You will be responsible for challenging senior stakeholders to prioritise and evaluate investment decisions and improve store performance - You will need to be a ‘self-starter’ who looks to set direction and work with autonomy - Investments include opening new stores and redevelopment of existing stores, plus an increasing amounts of focus on activity to manage risk and optimise returns from asset base of c.600 stores - You will be the finance representative throughout the investment approval process - providing financial insight and appropriate challenge for schemes as they are presented to the Asda Executive Board and Walmart - You will support schemes from approval through to opening; reviewing and challenging scheme changes; inputting into store plans; and providing insight into commercial performance - Ideally the candidate will have worked within fast paced, complex environments and show evidence of delivery against tight deadlines where conflicting priorities exist What you’ll need: - Strong commercial skill set and ability to evaluate investments and support clear, robust and measurable business cases - Confidence to challenge and influence operational partners at senior levels of the organisation - Ability to provide accurate, timely information to a high quality with excellent attention to detail - Strong interpersonal and communication skills to ensure information is clearly articulated to different stakeholder groups both financial and non-financial - Ability to establish professional and credible relations with both finance and non-finance colleagues - Ability to think logically, taking ownership of complex issues and drive actions that lead to driving the business forward - Proven ability to organise, prioritise and co-ordinate workloads within an environment of competing demands and deadlines - Applicants should be a graduate (or equivalent) with strong academics and a professional accounting qualification - Experience in the use of Excel and PowerPoint Business Unit About our Home Office We're very proud of our Yorkshire roots and Asda House, our Home Office, is still in Leeds.
