The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has a unique history of leading the way in the development of new approaches to cancer care. The Palliative care team continues this tradition. The fixed term role for two years, is a unique opportunity to deliver Palliative Care service improvements to the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The first project/service improvement has been designed to promote early advance care planning and referral to specialist palliative care through the use of a set of triggers to be piloted in the lung oncology out-patient department. The post holder will be responsible for educating the lung team in the use of the triggers and subsequent collation of data to report on key outcome measures. He/she will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of the project alongside the Consultants in Palliative Medicine. The results of this pilot will inform the next phase of the study which will include the additional use of a validated symptom assessment tool. The second project is to implement and roll out of Deciding Right across the organization to begin with patients attending the renal oncology out-patient department. We are now looking to recruit a Clinical Nurse Specialist to work as part of this multi-professional team. In the first instance, you will need to be a registered nurse with at least 3 years post registration experience in cancer/palliative care. Educated to at least degree level, you will also need to be confident in delivering education and training to all staff groups, having attained some form of post registration qualification in this. This post will offer this service to patients at both the Chelsea and Sutton sites of the hospital. We would welcome and encourage an informal visit.
