An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Transplant Unit of University Hospital of Wales for one Clinical Fellows at Registrar level for an initial period of one year with a possibility for extension starting on 1st May 2016 The Transplant Unit in Cardiff performs an average of 150 kidney transplants a year including a significant number of Live Donor and DCD Transplants. It has also a successful Pancreas Transplant Program and an expanding ABO and HLA incompatible program. As a consortium with Birmingham is one of the 7 designated centres responsible for the provision of the UK National Organ Retrieval Service. This post has been created to support the element of National Organ Retrieval provided by the Cardiff Transplant Unit. The post holder will participate in the on call rota for organ retrieval and they will be given training in all aspects of multi-organ abdominal retrieval and machine perfusion. They will also participate as required in the rota for organ implantation. The successful candidate should have at least two years training at ST1-ST2 level or equivalent and preferably have experience equivalent with 1st year Registrar. Previous experience in Abdominal Transplantation and Organ Donation is desirable. Evidence of FRCS, MRCS or equivalent experience abroad is desirable. This post has an element of research for suitable candidates. As a result this post is also suitable for Training Surgeons with ST number that want to take some time off to do research as well as doctors that have completed an ST1/ST2 program or equivalent abroad and want to improve their CV prior to applying for Higher Surgical Training.
