The National Graphene Institute is a new facility developed to establish the UK as a graphene research and technology 'hub' that will lead to the rapid commercialisation of graphene and 2D technologies in the UK. One of the main features of the NGI is its semiconductor cleanroom laboratories (1500 sqm, Class 100/1000) which are probably the largest and best equipped University-based cleanrooms in Europe. This is a varied role, involving a wide range of different activities and duties to play an important part in running our state-of-the-art cleanrooms to the highest standards. You will be the main point of contact for any tasks requiring a good understanding of basic laboratory Chemistry, including working with solvents, acids, bases, gaseous reactant, etc. A basic knowledge of Physics and Engineering is also required. You will provide technical support to world-class researchers, playing an important role in the timeliness and success of their experiments. This includes bringing chemicals into the lab and transporting waste carboys, so knowledge of chemical compatibility is also required. You will need to be a 'hands-on' person that enjoys working most of the day in the lab. Some prior chemical laboratory experience, whether at work or through your studies or project work, is also essential. Other tasks may include basic electrical / mechanical tasks, keep servicing records, cleaning tools and equipment, sorting laboratory laundry, managing stocks of consumables (from ordering online to replenishing at point of use), training users and checking compliance with guidelines and procedures, etc. The cleanroom facilities will evolve in order to meet current and future user needs. You will be expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet the developing needs of these facilities.
