Chief Engineer - Electronic Warfare - BedfordshireOur global Aerospace and Defence Engineering client require a Chief Engineer to be focused on successful contract delivery, by providing technical direction and leadership to the delivery teams. You will be involved in all stages of the product lifecycle including business winning, study contracts, technology demonstrator programmes, product development, delivery and in service support.About the role:The Chief Engineer is a senior technical role with delegated authority to authorise certificates of design and responsibility for the technical performance of products and ensuring that the performance can be achieved within budget and schedule. The Chief Engineer will lead and influence technical discussions, with Customers and End Users, to manage the product requirements and ensure that the proposed solution meets Customer expectations. In addition, the Chief Engineer will provide coaching to develop individuals and the team, in order to ensure that development is performed efficiently and effectively and results in a high quality of output. In this role you would be responsible for achieving product design certification, by ensuring adherence to the Companies Life Cycle Management processes and by delivering a technical solution that is Compliant with its requirements and meets Legislative Standards.Key Responsibility Areas:To promote a Project Team approach during Customer engagement and facilitate compliant cost effective technical solutions by working effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.Personally coach and mentor other engineers, to develop their capabilities and experiences, in line with the career aspirations and the needs of the company.Work with the team to:Develop the Concept of Operations and elicit User Requirements Develop candidate solutions and associated design trade-off studies Ensure the design solution maximises the re-use, is producible and supportable, robust and works in its environment, i.e. is fit for purpose Identify technical risks and mitigation strategies Ensure appropriate tailoring is applied to company processes Ensure that the design rationale is documented Partition the design (at however many levels of abstraction are required) Ensure effective Make or Buy Decisions Ensure effective configuration control and change management techniques are employed Resolve technical / programme conflictsEnsuring effective implementation of the company's Lifecycle Management, including Design Reviews and Processes, to:Agree qualification & acceptance criteria Validate and Meet Targets for Development of Design Maturity Meet the Target Unit Production Cost (where applicable) Influence, agree and implement the product route maps in accordance with the business plans Authorisation of design certificatesSkill, Qualifications & Knowledge RequiredStrong leadership competency but also can demonstrate team working skills. Good written and verbal communication skills and an ability to explain complex technical situations to a wide range of stakeholders. Strong technical background and knowledge of systems engineering Role model/mentor to other engineers within the team. Good problem solving ability. Degree qualified Current DAOS Certified or ability to gain certification Strong Technical understanding of the Electronic Warfare domain is desirableIntrinsic FactorsThere will be a travel requirement within the UK and overseas.
