Were recruiting for a Business Development Manager - Synthetic Biology. Joining this prestigious Cambridge based team; you will play a major role in building a new Synthetic Biology business area. Your main purpose will be to grow the business by selling professional services to clients. Youll help to define the commercial focus and tactics in Synthetic Biology and bring expert technical and business knowledge in biosciences to complement the teams existing engineering knowledge. Youll actively engage with industry across multiple sectors (both traditional biosciences industries and industries new to biosciences where Synthetic Biology will be disruptive) and find the opportunities for the team to connect with clients at a strategic level. What Youll Be Doing:* Selling the companys professional services capabilities to clients in the area of Synthetic Biology. * Using your experience and knowledge of bioscience-focused business to help develop plans and tactics to build the Synthetic Biology business. * Identifying potential clients for this new business, creating and executing plans to engage with potential clients. * Acting as first point-of-contact into client organisations. * Building strong relationships within client organisations, understanding their needs and using this to shape commercial focus and tactics. * Driving the process to provide quotes to clients for specific pieces of work. * Providing commercial context and direction to technology investment projects to maximise their value for marketing and skills demonstration. * Attendance at conferences and exhibitions as a representative of the team. * Some worldwide travel will be required to meet and engage with clients. What Were Looking For:* Youll have a Masters level degree in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology or a similar biology or chemistry focused scientific discipline relevant to Synthetic Biology. * Experience as a hands-on scientist in a commercial context in a relevant area to Synthetic Biology (e.g. gene design, gene editing, cloning, cell transformation, cell culture, sequencing, assay development, culture scale-up). * Experience in a commercial role within a bioscience focused company (e.g. biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences), with a good understanding of the bioscience business. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * An established network of contacts within bioscience industries would be a bonus.
