Band 7 - Trauma Nurse Co-Ordinator The Major Trauma Centre at The Royal London Hospital is a leading specialist centre with an international reputation for caring for some of the most seriously injured patients across London and the surrounding counties. It is also the home of London’s Air Ambulance and the hub of the North East London and Essex Trauma Network, the first and largest Trauma Network in the UK, providing trauma care for more than 5 million people. We are leaders in the field for developing effective, efficient, coordinated disaster response systems. Over the last few decades, our clinical teams across the trauma service have been involved in the management of various major incidents, including the London bombings in 2005, the nail-bombing attack in Soho in 1999, and the terrorist bombings in Bishopsgate in 1993. We have developed and put in place action plans for dealing with emergency situations. We pioneer life-saving techniques and procedures including the use of REBOA resuscitative endovascular occlusion of the aorta in controlling blood loss, and ROTEM rotational thromboelastometry guided resuscitation in major haemorrhage. Regular simulation events support the development of staff to deliver these techniques. The Royal London Hospital has a dedicated trauma ward where patients benefit from safe, compassionate and coordinated care delivered by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, nurses and therapists. We provide rapid access to a range of specialists and services to support patients who have undergone a traumatic injury in their recovery. Education and training is a priority with access to internal and external training including TILS, TTL, TTM, ATLS and APLS courses. Our partnership with the Centre for Trauma Sciences, a world-leading centre of excellence for translational research at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, offers unique opportunities for multi-professional staff to undertake an MSc in Trauma Sciences. We are currently looking for two Band 7 nurses. One will take responsibility for leading our Trauma Ward, ensuring that our CQC-commended excellent care is maintained and developing and motivating our young and enthusiastic nursing team. This post would be suited to any nurse with acute experience who is clinically competent, has excellent communication skills and the dedication, imagination and energy to lead an internationally renowned trauma service. The second post currently available is a Trauma Nurse Coordinator role. This person will work with our existing TNC to ensure the care provided to patients who have experienced traumatic injury is individually tailored and seamless. They will act as a point of contact for professionals, relatives and patients during and beyond hospital admission. We are looking for an individual with surgical ward or ED experience who is highly organised and comfortable communicating with a range of people.
