We are currently recruiting for an Accounting Manager, to manage the delivery of the quarterly and half yearly reporting for our companies (this includes production and analysis of regulatory returns, statutory accounts, group reporting packs), to required level of accuracy, following Group and Professional quality and control standards and delivering to the agreed timescales. The duties and responsibilities of the Accounting Manager will include but not be limited to: Manage and develop a team responsible for the accounting for one of the Friends Life Companies under UKGAAP and IFRS, including half year and YE regulatory returns. Manage relationship with counterparts in the Business Services (Diligenta, Capita), monitoring and providing insight on performance, resources and process efficiency, to ensure that results are accurate and timely. Liaise with other accounting and analysis and actuarial teams in BU and Group to develop understanding of the accounting records at a more granular level (e.g. by product). Maintain and develop a robust framework of internal controls to ensure that accounting records maintained are complete, accurate and reliable. Provide robust financial analysis and explanatory commentary of actual result performance against prior periods and present this monthly to the Accounting Forum made up of senior management within Finance. Implement improvements to accounting processes and controls, including asset allocation, in order to increase reporting efficiency and quality. Define and provide financial information, interpretation, analysis and support to internal customers, thereby enabling an improved understanding of the information provided. Involvement in relevant strategic and regulatory projects. Facilitate the personal development and improvement of team members through objective setting, monitoring and communication. The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CA) with a technical mind-set. You will have a demonstrable experience in dealing with statutory accounts, group reporting packs and regulatory returns. Experience of working within a life insurer is highly desirable, or another large financial services firm. You will be an excellent communicator with great stakeholder management skills, as you will need to work with colleagues across multiple teams.
